Well, for me summer is a time to:
1. Let my creativity loose.
I feel happiest when I'm doing something that's fun, [mildly] productive, and helps me express myself. Whether it's sitting at the piano writing songs, scrapping pictures in my Smashbook [seriously one of the best inventions ever, click here], or blogging, letting my creativity loose is something I believe helps all of us reflect and express.
2. Work
Many of you work. Until this summer, I was the opposite. Summer was a time to do what I wanted, when I wanted (when my mom could drive me). Now working 2 part time jobs gives me less time to just do what I want (even though I can drive myself). This would include things such as TV show marathons and mini adventures. Although I've only been working for a bit, I've learned that work helps me in a number of ways. (You know how I am with lists).
- Sleep Deeper
- Take each free moment for granted
- Long for more adventure (and plan for it)
- Get me out of my lazy cycle
Looking back, my past summers were full of fun, but as I grow "older", I realize that I tend more to just want to do nothing. Working helps drive me to want to do things, because I have a less amount of time to fit them in. Make sense?
3. Go on adventures [or reflecting on past ones].
Speaking of doing more things, summer brings adventure. Camp! Who doesn't remember the glory days of waterslides at whatchamacallit lake and crazy camp games? Trips! To who knows where. 10m, 10 hrs, 10 days. Going new places, seeing new things-adventure!!
4. Quality time with family and friends.
Time to slow down with family and friends. To chat, laugh, play games, and go to drive in movies! Whatever it is, summer is the perfect recipe for taking time to re-acquaint yourself with your loved ones without [as much] hassle as the fall/winter/spring months.
5. Soak the sun.
It's the time to throw out heavyweight jeans and replace with shorts. To apply (and reapply) sunscreen. To lay out in the grass [or sand] and read a good book [shout out to C.S. Lewis, my author for this summer. Please read his books, it'll change you life!].
Whatever I end up doing this summer, wherever I end up going, and whoever I end up spending time with along the way-I'm going to take full advantage of these summer months. Hopefully this post will inspire you to do the same-it's summer!
