Being On Fire For God

"I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You're not cold, you're not hot—far better to be either cold or hot! You're stale. You're stagnant. You make me want to vomit. You brag, 'I'm rich, I've got it made, I need nothing from anyone,' oblivious that in fact you're a pitiful, blind beggar, threadbare and homeless."

Revelation 3:15-17

The Message (MSG)

In this passage, God is saying that He'd rather have you entirely against Him than a lukewarm "Christian". This is pretty big statement. Let's just think about it for a moment. God would rather have you completely and utterly against Him in every way, instead of being a so-so Christian. Of course, God wants everyone to be an on-fire Christian, but He very much dislikes when people don't take their relationship with Him seriously.

So what is being "lukewarm"? When I looked it up on dictionary.com, some of the words it gave me were "unenthusiastic" or "indifferent". So, to paraphrase the verse, God is saying that He'd rather have you despise Him than be "unenthusiastic". He'd rather have you be against Him than be "indifferent".

What are you? Are you completely on fire for God, being different and enthusiastic? Or are you lukewarm? I honestly think that I'm lukewarm quite often, either because I'm scared to be different or I just don't care. Whatever the reason, we need to be completely on fire for God, otherwise we'll make him want to puke us out. (It's not funny, we'll literally make Him sick to His stomach).
