This summer has been just great. Some of my favorite things are crafting and thrifting. Last year I discovered chalkboard paint. My first project was this beauty. I got the frame from goodwill for a few bucks, brought it home, painted the glass and voila! Such a success. I love the affect it has on my room. :)
The second project I conducted with my chalkboard paint occurred this summer. I've had this old tin container for quite some time. I had used it has a pencil holder type thing on my desk, but I decided it needed to be upcycled. Thus, the second picture is after I painted one of the sides with my awesome chalkboard paint. Now it is on my bookshelf and also contributes to the aura of my room. I just have to figure out what the practical purpose is...
I also LOVE to thrift. I can go a little crazy sometimes...but that's all good, right? Anyways, these are a few snapshots of my thrifting successes this summer. Yay! I had quite a hard time fitting it all on my camera, but you get the general jist. Among these items are a Tommy Hilfiger Scarf, 2 "twentyone" tanktops, and a plain white Ann Taylor T-Shirt (and those are just the "name-brand" items. :) One of the scarfs I actually bought at Burlingtons (pink/blue polka dot/floral design) but I got it for $3 so I forgot that I hadn't thrifted it. :) That was also a "score!" moment. I also bought the black dress at a goodwill...such a great buy! It's quite simple, but is perfect for any formal occasion...everyone knows that a lbd is a necessity in one's closet...good to know that you can also find necessities, as well as fun things at a thrift store. Take for instance the blue/white pencil skirt. So fun, right? Perfect for summer and I'm sure I can find a way to wear it in the fall/winter...perhaps brown leather boots with a darker top? Oh, I'm already working on my fall wardrobe!
I hope this blog post convinces you that crafting and thrifting are two great ways to tap into your creative energy. They both add so much adventure and excitement to your day and did I mention....you also save a HUGE amount of money? That of course, is just a plus. :)
